About Main Street Brenham

Main Street Brenham is dedicated to preserving the beauty and rich history of our downtown, while fostering a vibrant environment for residents, businesses, and visitors alike. Our fundraising directly supports these goals, fueling initiatives like the Façade & Sign Reimbursement Grant Program, ongoing beautification efforts, and public art installations that make Downtown the true heart of our community.

The strength and success of Main Street Brenham are built upon a vital cooperative effort involving its sponsors, local government, business owners, and lending institutions within the community. Since rejoining the Main Street program in 1999, the City of Brenham has seen a remarkable improvement in its historic downtown district, largely due to over $2.85 million in reinvestment activities to date.

Our Mission
Main Street Brenham's mission is to strengthen and facilitate the economic development of historic downtown for everyone.

Main Street Brenham operates under the umbrella of Main Street America, a program committed to revitalizing historic downtown business districts nationwide. Sponsored by the National Trust for Historic Preservation and the Texas Historical Commission, this collective effort has generated over $5 billion in investments, rehabilitated countless historic structures, and facilitated the creation of 27,000 new businesses and more than 100,000 local jobs in Main Street cities across the country.

Main Street America has been helping revitalize older and historic commercial districts for more than 40 years. Today, the network has more than 1,600 neighborhoods and communities. Main Street America is a subsidiary of the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

Texas Downtown

As a member of Texas Downtown (TXD), we encompass a diverse group of partners ranging from economic development corporations to small business owners to achieve our vision of every community in Texas having economically vibrant districts that reflect their unique character.

Main Street Brenham is a part of the Texas Historical Commission’s Texas Main Street Program. Brenham became an official Texas Main Street City in 1999.

 Volunteer Opportunities

We are always looking for passionate people who want to help preserve historic Downtown Brenham. Being a Main Street Volunteer is a great way to help protect and grow our community! We would love to have you be a part of the adventure! No job is too big or too small!  The only qualification for a Main Street Brenham volunteer is a desire for the success of Downtown Brenham.
